Offshore Wind Developer Really Cares About Fishermen

NEW BEDFORD, MA – Sept, 26 2021 – Offshore Wind Farm Support is proud to announce the placement of seasoned, experienced and knowledgeable fisherman known as “Certified Fisheries Liaison Officer” onboard the Survey Vessel Shearwater for Offshore Wind Developer Vineyard Wind.

Vineyard Wind is developing an 800MW Offshore Wind Farm to ultimately power over 400,000 homes in Massachusetts. Operations began in October and are expected to continue into November 2021.

Vineyard Wind is an Offshore Wind Developer Who Really Cares About Fishermen and embraces the importance of working closely with fishermen and mariners in the area and while it is not mandated by BOEM, they insist on having “Certified Fisheries Liaisons” (CFLO) onboard all survey vessels.

A CFLO is an experienced and highly trained fisherman who who communicates in real time with fishermen and mariners, should the need arise. During the 2020 Survey Season, CFLO’s covered 114,000km of survey area with a little over 400 crossing situations and have ZERO negative interactions.

“There are 17 different Offshore Wind Farms under development on the Eastern Seaboard and Vineyard Wind is one of only three developers who really cares about working closely with fishermen. They are a wonderful company to work with and we feel very fortunate to have earned their business.”
