Congratulations Vineyard Wind!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO VINEYARD WIND!

Vineyard Wind has received final approval to begin construction on the nation’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm. Construction is expected to begin this summer and once complete, the wind Farm will generate enough power for about 400,000 homes.
Vineyard Wind will install up to 84 turbines to about 12-15 south of Martha’s Vineyard.

This is great news for the surrounding fishing towns because it will bring numerous good paying marine jobs during construction and long into the future.
Fishermen who have been forced off the water due to climate change, fishing regulations and fishing permit consolidation will now have an opportunity to get back on the water and once again live their lives as mariners!

There are currently about a dozen other Offshore Wind projects under review up and down the coast between Massachusetts and North Carolina so the long term outlook for mariners is very bright.

The $2.8 billion project is a joint venture of the energy firms Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.
